Birthright Israel or Taglit-Birthright Israel is a not-for-profit educational organization that sponsors free 10-day tourist travel in Israel.

The aim of the birth right organisation is to connect Israel with Jewish communities living in other parts of the world, and to strengthen the Jewish identity of Jews living in the diaspora who might not be as familiar with their Jewish history or the culture of the Jewish homeland.

The Itinierary:

-       Trips are generally ten days long.

-       Mifgash, which is Hebrew for ‘encounter’ allows participants to meet with Israeli peers, usually soldiers serving in the Israeli Defence Force who join the touring. By becoming friends, each party gets to know more about Judaism from a different perspective.
-       Most trips include the Mega Event, which brings together people on the birth right trip to Israel from all countries who are led by various organizers. The Mega Event involves people with music acts and informative speeches by important Israeli ambassadors.
-       As a short introductory trip, the program encourages participants to extend their stay in Israel for up to 3 months after the program is over.

You probably already know that polarised sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. But do you know how the polarised lens actually works?

Polarised lenses are transparent pieces of glass or plastic, designed to block out certain types of light waves. Camera and sunglass lenses are often polarised to reduce glare from light bouncing off surfaces. Although polarised sunglasses do not block out all light, they generally block out up to 50% of harmful UV rays that cause damage to your eyes.

What is glare?
When light bounces off a surface its waves tend to be strongest in a particular direction, usually vertically, horizontally or diagonally. When this light is reflected off a surface such as a piece of metal, the road or a lake the waves generally bounce off horizontally – striking the viewer’s eyes intensely, creating glare.

How do Polarised lenses reduce glare?
Lenses can be polarised to different degrees and in different ways. Cheap polarised lenses usually have a film placed on the two sides of the lens. Higher quality lenses may have the film laminated between the lenses, preventing the film being scratched or damaged. Polarised sunglasses are generally laminated with tiny vertical stripes, allowing only vertical light through the lens, preventing harmful horizontal glare.

Do darker tint lenses reduce glare?
The simple answer is no. A polarised lens can be any colour. The amount of polarisation only varies with the quality of the polarised lens. The lenses do not block 100% of glare from the line of sight either. It’s important to know that polarised sunglass lenses are usually designed to block only horizontal glare.

When do I need Polarised lenses?
Polarised lenses are great for people with an outdoor lifestyle. In particular anytime you are on or near the water, the road, and in the sun – polarised lenses are the best way to reduce the harmful effects of glare.

When not to use polarised sunglasses?
It is strongly recommended that downhill skiers and snowboarders not wear polarised sunglasses. Unlike water, ice does not reflect light horizontally and polarised lenses can actually reduce vision in the ice rather than improve it.

Today, it’s not just both male and female celebs that can be seen sporting aviator sunglasses of all brands, colours and materials. The modern day trend has spurred all people and even young children to wear aviator sunglasses as their daily eye protection from the sun.

But many people don’t know aviator sunglasses’ origins. While they’re fashion-forward today, they were as classic as you get back in the day.

Developed by Bausch & Lomb and branded as Ray-Ban glasses in 1936, aviator sunglasses were designed for pilots to protect their eyes while flying, hence their distinct air-related name. When General Douglas MacArthur landed on a beach in the Philippines during World War 2, newspaper photographers took photos of him wearing them and when published in the media, the glasses took off as an everyday trend. With their racy, avant-garde aesthetics, Ray-Ban began selling the glasses to the public a year after they were developed.

The aviator style was also popular starting in the 1960s and became a key icon in pop culture as they were worn by The Beatles members. Ray Ban sales also rose 40% in the 7 months following the release of the film Top Gun where actor Tom Cruise wore the sunnies too.

Typically, face shape has been a major determining factor for glasses suitability. But what if your face shape is not one that is particularly unique? There are many other facial features to consider when choosing the right frames for you.

For a larger nose, large oversized frames are recommended for balance. Small frames are more likely to accent nose size. We suggest oversized frames like these Ray Ban sunnies.

If your nose is on the longer side, choose ray ban frames with high sidebars that draw attention upward toward the temples and away from the nose.
